Multicore: The View from Europe
نویسندگان
چکیده
......As guest editors, we are extremely honored to introduce the IEEE Micro special issue on European multicore computing projects. In 2004, the European Commission funded the HiPEAC Network of Excellence as an instrument to overcome the research landscape fragmentation in the fields of computer architecture and compilation in Europe. In response to the paradigm shift to multicore-based computers, the European Commission has also invested in several collaborative research projects that investigate a wide range of topics aimed at advancing the state of the art in multicore computing, most of which are defined in the context of the HiPEAC network. Many of these projects are in their final phases or successfully completed. This special issue seeks to provide a rather representative snapshot of the innovations that have taken place in these projects. We anticipated the challenge of addressing projects that had to be performed under collaboration by multiple partners, usually from research institutions and companies located in different European countries and recognized as such by the European Union.

Two Attitudes toward Art History: A Comparative Study of Philosophy of Art History of Qādī Ahmad Qomi and Giorgio Vasari in “Golestān-e Honar” and “Lives f the Artists”
Up to now, about the first art history as we know today, i.e "Golestān-e Honar" by Qādī Mir Ahmad Qomi and "Lives of the Artists" by Giorgio Vasari, different researches and studies from different aspects of bibliographical, historical and literary has been done. But what has been neglected is a broader and deeper view into the epistemic foundation and theoretical frame of historiography and vi...
متن کاملScalable Computing in the Multicore Era
Multicore architecture has become the trend of high performance processors. While it is generally accepted that we have entered the multicore era, concerns exist on scaling multicore processors. Technology is available, but major vendors are hesitant in entering the multicore market with processors that have large number of cores, citing Amdahl’s law. This is a very interesting phenomenon, wher...
متن کاملReevaluating Amdahl's law in the multicore era
Microprocessor architecture has entered the multicore era. Recently, Hill and Marty presented a pessimistic view of multicore scalability. Their analysis was based on Amdahl’s law (i.e. fixed-workload condition) and challenged readers to develop bettermodels. In this study,we analyzemulticore scalability under fixed-time andmemory-bound conditions and from the data access (memorywall) perspecti...
متن کاملWhat to Make of Multicore Processors for Reliable Real-Time Systems?
Now that multicore microprocessors have become a commodity, it is natural to think about employing them in all kinds of computing, including high-reliability embedded real-time systems. Appealing aspects of this development include the ability to process more instructions per second and more instructions per watt. However, not all problems are amenable to parallel decomposition, and for those t...
متن کاملA single processor approach for loosely synchronized execution of parallel flows on heterogeneous multicore
Multicore is quickly becoming the norm, even in the embedded world. This trend is thought to be sustained as long as the progress of micro-electronics will permit, by regularly doubling the number of available computing cores on a given chip. That means that multicore aware programs are no longer an option, but at the same time, parallel programming is still very hard nowadays despite progresse...
